I am doing my project on parkour/free running in France. Parkour and free running is a high octane and dare-devil sport, which involves moving from point A to point B using flips and high speed jumps in the environment around you. I am doing this because I have been interested in this sport for several years so I have found a view sites and videos to share with you.
Where Parkour Originated.
Parkour originated from France by a man named George Hebert, naval officer during World War I. He found these ideas from tribes he came across in Africa. Hebert then became a physical educator and began teaching people the fundamentals of parkour. This link explains more of the history. It will be in this first part. "History of Parkour
Movement.
There is no specific movement in parkour. It is simply running and jumping object as quick as possible. Now, free running on th other hand, has many moves that can be used. Such as back flips, front flips, and many others. Many professional parkour athletes have taken or take gymnastics to help with flexibility and other things. To see a list of movement and videos of it, revisit the same link in the previous paragraph and scroll down to the "Movement" section and watch the video.
Parkour Athletes.
There are millions of parkour athletes around the world. But the true founder to today's modern day parkour is Frenchman David Belle. David was taught from his father, Raymond Belle, and through his life, he shot many videos of him performing stunts and that is why it is popular today. This link shows on of David's most popular parkour video. David Belle Parkour Video.
Another very popular athlete that I am impressed with is Pip Andersen. This next link is showing more free running in today's England. Pip Andersen Video.
Locations/Environments
Parkour and free running has spread from France, to England, all the way to Australia. It is growing rapidly as more and more men and women are getting into it. Parkour and free running mostly takes place outside in the city or nature. Many people have built gyms to help train and instruct young and old athletes. Many videos you see are in cities.
Social Media/Advertising
As the growth of this emerges, it goes into places people watch the most-TV, internet, and social media. This link is a clip of a video from the 2010 MTV show, Ultimate Parkour Challenge. This just showing the popularity grow. Ultimate Parkour.
Parkour can also land you jobs! Many athletes are signed with big named companies and promote them and advertise such as Red Bull, Sony, and Rockstar. Being signed with these businesses, the athletes must make videos and wear and use the product. They also get the opportunity to travel and explore new places. Competitions are held by these businesses, not only for the athlete, but for crowds of people to watch. This link is from the Red Bull youtube channel showing the advertising from some athletes and holding competitions. Red Bull Parkour.
