Edith Piaf was born in Belleville, Paris by the name of Edith Giovanna Gassion. Edith was a well- known singer in France during World War II. She was known as the national diva. Edith had a very rough time in her personal life dealing with 3 serious car crashes taken place in 1951 and the death of her daughter Marcelle. This lead to morphine and alcohol addictions.
