I chose the topic of Daniel Auber, a French composer in the romantic-era, because Daniel Auber is well-known French composer. So I looked up “Daniel Auber” in a Google search. I found many very interesting things about Auber, about his compositions he created, his operas, and his biography. La muette de Portici- this link provides you with a Wikipedia page on La muette, an opera by Auber. If you look at the “background” section, second paragraph, you can see what I thought was very interesting; a list of ways La muette was initiative. You can also check out the various acts of the opera in the “Act 1” through “Act 5” section. I thought this was interesting because it basically tells the story of La muette. I also like how you can find a very classic piece of work, and you can still see it today. Auber’s biography- this link provides you with the biography of Auber. A couple of interesting things I spotted were that his tutor was a composer himself; this helped Auber because Josef, his tutor, could give him real-life examples. This is found in the second paragraph. Another thing I found was that he was in the “Legion of Honor” found in the sixth paragraph. Legion of Honor description- I added this to my project because I thought it would be helpful to some people to know what the “Legion” is. This site gives a very nice description of what the “Legion” is in the first paragraph.
