My Interest
I am interested in French Artwork just because I feel like the French have some of the best artists in the world. Their buildings all resemble the time and effort put into the detail of the structure such as the Eiffel Tower and Bell Tower. This shows that their artwork must be priceless.
Major Museums in France
Some of the most popular museums in France are:
- Musée de L'Armée / War Museum
- Musée National D'Art Moderne / Museum of Modern Art
- Musée D'art Décoratif / Museum of Decorative Art
- Musée de Cluny / Cluny Museum
Priceless Piece of Art
Since Paris is full of artwork and details, this must mean the simple paintings and pictures must be as good as the rest of the city. The most famous painting in the world is the Mona Lisa. The artist is Leonardo da Vinci. The painting is on a permanent display at the Musee du Louvre in Paris.
Eiffel Tower
When construction of the Eiffel Tower began on the Champs de Mars, a group of 300 artists, sculptors, writers and architects sent a petition to the commissioner of the Paris Exposition, pleading him to halt construction of the "ridiculous tower" that would dominate Paris like a "gigantic black smokestack." But the protests of Paris' artistic community fell on deaf ears. Construction of the tower was completed in just over two years, on March 31, 1889.
Musee d'Orsay
The Musee d'Orsay, housed in a former turn-of-the-century Beaux-Arts railroad station, is devoted basically to 19tn century French art. The collections include impressionism, post-impressionism, realism, and art nouveau work, with the focus on sculpture, drawings and paintings. Visitors can see dozens of works by Degas, Pissaro, Monet, Van Gogh, Gaughin and Renoir on permanent display. Exhibits also include furniture and architectural elements reflective of the nineteenth century.
