Joan of Arc had been born a peasant girl, but would later fulfill a prophecy of Frances victory and go down in history as a warrior, a Saint, heretic, and even savior of France. Joan was known as a commander that was an inspiration to the troops that she led and was even said to of heard the words of God, which guided her and her troops in battle, this inspiration was said to have carried her troops to victory every time. Within her 2 years of involvement with the French military (age 17-19) she had completely changed the tide of the Hundred Years War (actually 116 year) between the English Empire and the French Empire, where at the time England was winning.
One of Joan’s most famous conquest was her role in Orleans where she was provided with a large number of troops which included her brothers Jean and Pierre. Joan’s weapon of choice was a sword that was buried near a church, which she had found through the guidance of God. As she was a peasant girl of only 18 at the time her men had sometimes asked her if she was afraid of fighting in the war, she responded to them with, “I am not afraid… I was born to do this.” (One of my favorite quotes by her) . On the 4th of May Joan and her soldiers laid siege upon the fortress of Saint Loup and overtook it in a single day, and the next morning they began their march for the fortress of Saint Jean le Blanc. On the assault on Les Tourelles on the 7th of May she had been shot through the neck with an arrow but had soon recovered to return to the theatre. Joan’s spirit alone was enough to make England fear her. (Joan suffered many other injuries on the battlefield but never stopped fighting or lost faith)
A many years before the war ended, Joan was captured and accused of being a heretic and practicing witchcraft. She was imprisoned for many months yet here spirit never broke and no one could prove the claims against her, because of this it was said that she cross-dressing as a man with her armor was biblically incorrect and was sent to be burned at the stake on May 30, 1431. 20 years later the case was revisited and Joan was founded innocent, though of course she was dead so it didn’t really mean much.
